 was able to do the corn picking demonstrations as planned at the corn field although rain cut the event short about 4:00. A big thank you to all that helped make the demonstrations possible. |
Plans For Saturday!
We are preparing for corn picking day on Saturday. If rain prevents us from being in the field picking corn, we will still be demonstrating A husker shredder, corn sheller, and horse-powered ear corn grinder. We will also be demonstrating barn block painting throughout the day. We will once again be selling tickets for a chance to win a 4x4 barn block, "Sunflower Chance". Tickets are 1 for $3, 2 for $5, 6 for $10. There will also be cake and coffee to celebrate Hazel Zimmerman's 85th birthday from 9:30-10:00. Hope to see you there!

Searching for School Stories
The late Edla (Mostrom) Freeland and her daughter Gloria
Freeland did research and put together a booklet, "District Schools of
Morris County, Kansas."
Edla and Gloria discovered they had ample information and
photos for many of the 89 Morris County schools and not much for others. Gloria
wants to update the information and eventually have copies of the book printed.
Edla and her sister Edith attended the Marion Hill School
and graduated from Dwight High School. Edith, who married E.G. "Bud"
Keys, was a life-long resident of Morris County, and she taught more than 30
years in the county. The sisters also attended the Marion Hill Lutheran Church
and their uncle, J.J. Richard, was a pastor at the church for many years.

"Painted Quilts Across The Flint Hills"
Open Through April 30
Barn quilters Jessica Wyrill and daughter, Lexi,
Cindy Zimmerman and Hazel Zimmerman
toured “Painted Barn Quilts Across the Flint Hills”
at the Great Overland Station on St. Patrick’s Day.
Connie Larson enjoyed sharing the exhibit by the
Kansas Flint Hills Quilt Trail with the avid barn quilters.
Jessica is active with the North Central/Northwest
barn quilt trails and Cindy and Hazel are
both barn quilt painters.
The family museum and park, Ag Heritage Park, Alta Vista,
is an exhibitor with antique farm artifacts
complementing the display.
The exhibit is open through April 30,
Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m – 4:00 p.m., and takes visitors on atour
of barn quilts through the Flint Hills,
as well as featuring quilts that
complement the art form.
